September is Baby Safety Month: Tips to Keep Your Infant Safe at Home

Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Nothing is more beautiful than a little bundle of joy coming home from the hospital. September is Baby Safety Month and we know how stressful bringing home a new baby can be. We’ve gathered a few tips to help guide you to making your home as safe as possible for your newborn.

  • Prior to bringing your baby home, the entire house or apartment must be baby-proofed.
  • Check hazards like wires, sockets, cords, anything hanging from above and make sure nothing is leaking.
  • Make sure your carbon monoxide detector is up-to-date and working properly.
  • Replace every air filter with brand new ones to prevent dust build-up.
  • Sweep, vacuum and mop the floors completely. 
  • Run a True HEPA air purifier in the nursery on silent mode while they sleep.
  • Move any plants from the floor to a raised surface.
  • Check recalls on any baby products, especially car seats. 
  • Keep your laundry and the baby’s laundry separate.
  • Never place the baby’s crib near windows with cords or strings.
  • Gather up and put away anything small and loose that can be swallowed.
  • Consider using natural and chemical-free cleaning products.
  • Regular cleanings of the baby’s room or nursery will keep it mold and mildew and dirt free.

There are plenty of other tips and rules to adhere to as the baby gets older, but this is a great list to start with. Newborn babies are such a joy to have around, we need to make sure their environments are safe and clean. Spread the awareness for Baby Safety Month!
