Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Nothing is more beautiful than a little bundle of joy coming home from the hospital. September is Baby Safety Month and we know how stressful bringing home a new baby can be. We’ve gathered a few tips to help guide you to making your home as safe as possible for your newborn.

  • Prior to bringing your baby home, the entire house or apartment must be baby-proofed.
  • Check hazards like wires, sockets, cords, anything hanging from above and make sure nothing is leaking.
  • Make sure your carbon monoxide detector is up-to-date and working properly.
  • Replace every air filter with brand new ones to prevent dust build-up.
  • Sweep, vacuum and mop the floors completely.
  • Run a True HEPA air purifier in the nursery on silent mode while they sleep.
  • Move any plants from the floor to a raised surface.
  • Check recalls on any baby products, especially car seats.
  • Keep your laundry and the baby’s laundry separate.
  • Never place the baby’s crib near windows with cords or strings.
  • Gather up and put away anything small and loose that can be swallowed.
  • Consider using natural and chemical-free cleaning products.
  • Regular cleanings of the baby’s room or nursery will keep it mold and mildew and dirt free.
