Making time for yourself to unwind, destress and relax is extremely important. Everyone needs a mental break to recenter and focus on themselves. If you don’t have a space in your apartment or home to do that, it’s time to create it for yourself. We can help you achieve this with a few tips and tricks.
Set the Mood with Scent and Sound
Ambiance is an important piece of creating your at-home spa day. Here are some things you can do to set the mood:
- Get an aroma diffuser for essential oils. Airthereal’s LED flame light diffuser is amazing because of its realistic fire light, multiple color settings and is app-controlled, so you don’t have to get up and fuss with it.
- Create a calming, soothing playlist to stream quietly in the background. If you’re not a music person, you can go for white noise sounds like rain, ocean waves or wind.
- Strategically place aromatic candles around the room with relaxing scents like lavender, jasmine, sandalwood and more. Or burn some sage instead if you’re looking to cleanse not just your spirit but the room too.
Draw a Soothing Bath
This is the important part. You want to make sure you’re comfortable and relaxed for as long as possible. Here’s tips to draw the best bath for your spa day:
- Run the bath at a higher temperature, but not boiling, so it can last you a while. Add in a bath bomb or calming bath bubbles.
- Make sure you have any items you need/want closest to you, so you can access it easily: cheese board, wine glass, book, tablet, etc.
- If you have one, lay down a bath cushion or something water-absorbent down inside the bath so you can comfortably reside for a while.
Ways to Mentally Decompress
While you’re relaxing in the bath or alternately just laying down somewhere, it’s the best time to destress and focus on what’s important: you. We have a couple tips to help you out:
- Breathing exercises are an extremely effective way to easily relax.
- Sing or hum along to the songs playing in the background.
- Empty your mind completely. If that’s hard for you to do, count your breath and if your mind wanders, start counting again.
- Avoid screens. In order to truly turn off your mind, you’ll need to keep any electronic screens off, like tablets, smartphones, TVs, etc. Those will only distract you and potentially add to your stress.
Don’t forget to prioritize yourself amidst your busy schedule. Even if you can’t sequester yourself away for a full spa day, you can always light a candle, turn off the light and breathe for 10 minutes. Relaxation is mind over matter.
